The design concept for this. estate revolves around monolithic materiality, horizontal expansion, & the integration of active outdoor living.
We have utilized a robust palette of oversized fieldstone and smooth stucco to create a structure that feels anchored to its site. By prioritizing expansive horizontal planes and deep overhangs, the architecture provides a sense of permanent shelter while maintaining a direct, transparent connection to the pool and athletic courts.
1240 Ocean Avenue was conceived as a multi-generational retreat where the architecture serves as a backdrop for both high-energy recreation and quiet repose. The design departs from traditional verticality, opting instead for a sprawling, low-profile footprint that hugs the landscape. This approach allows the various "zones" of the home—from the private sleeping quarters to the open-concept living areas—to transition seamlessly into the sprawling backyard.
The material selection was driven by a desire for textural contrast. The rugged, hand-laid stone of the lower facade and chimneys provides a tactile foundation, which is juxtaposed against the crisp, dark lines of the metal roofing and pergola structures. Whether viewed from the private football court or the sunken pool lounge, the residence maintains a consistent language of strength, luxury, and intentionality.
